handcrafted since 2023"The general store where we handcraft our White Sparrow products was built in 1884 by pioneer relatives, long before our time. We brought it back to life in 2019, and in 2023 began making tallow balm inspired by the rhythms of life on our Idaho farm. Made with grass-fed, grass-finished tallow from trusted American farms, each jar is a small nod to an older way of doing things."
Why people switch from their old cream
What families are saying
“We'd tried every cream the dermatologist suggested for my daughter's eczema. Two weeks with the tallow balm and her skin is calm for the first time in years. I can't recommend it enough.”
“I was skeptical that one ingredient could do this much. It absorbs in seconds, never feels greasy, and a single jar has lasted me months. It's the only thing left in my routine.”
“Finally something I trust on my newborn's skin.”
“My winter-dry hands are healed. Wish I'd found this years ago.”
“Knowing exactly what's in it — and where it comes from — means everything.”

A dream kept for years
This has been a dream of mine for years. I've always longed to create heritage nightgowns — pieces that feel timeless, feminine, and deeply comforting. Garments meant for the quiet hours, for home, for rest.
Each one is thoughtfully designed in the United States and carefully crafted by skilled artisans, made with intention and respect for the craft — created to be lived in, loved, and kept.

What exactly is tallow, and why put it on my skin?
Tallow is rendered grass-fed beef fat — and it's remarkably close to the oils your own skin already makes. That's why it absorbs so well and nourishes rather than just sitting on top. Ours comes from cattle raised on our family pasture in Idaho.
Is it gentle enough for sensitive, reactive skin?
Yes. With a single recognizable ingredient and no synthetic fragrance, dyes, or fillers, it's one of the gentlest things you can put on your skin. Many customers come to us after nothing else has felt right on their very sensitive skin.
Does it feel greasy or heavy?
No. A small amount melts in and absorbs within seconds, leaving skin soft and comfortable rather than slick. A little goes a long way.
What does it smell like?
Our unscented balm has only the faint, natural scent of pure tallow, which fades quickly. If you prefer a hint of fragrance, we offer lightly scented options too.
How long does one jar last?
With daily full-body use, most people find a jar lasts two to three months — longer if you're using it just on your hands, face, or trouble spots.
Can I use it on my face, or just my body?
Both. It's lovely as a nighttime face balm and works beautifully on dry hands, elbows, heels, and anywhere that needs a little extra care. A pea-sized amount is plenty for the face.
Is it safe during pregnancy and for babies?
Because it's a single, food-grade ingredient with nothing synthetic added, many mamas use it through pregnancy and on their little ones for dry patches and cradle cap. As always, check with your provider if you have concerns.
How is it made, and where does it come from?
We render small batches by hand from the fat of our own grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle in Idaho — slowly and gently, so the balm stays pure and stable. Nothing is outsourced or mass-produced.
How should I store it, and how long does it keep?
Keep your jar somewhere cool and out of direct sun. Sealed, it stays good for over a year; once opened, we recommend enjoying it within twelve months. In warm weather it may soften — pop it in the fridge for a few minutes and it firms right back up.
